Hi everyone! Today was a day for exploring new places - and what a day for it! Nothing better than grabbing your bike and exploring somewhere different. Looking forward to more days like this during winter - so refreshing to find new places to ride bikes.

It was another place which was pretty flat! Need to find more steep techy tracks soon to mix it up!

I was lucky to be in good company - always makes the day more fun. Throughout winter and into 2016 I will be leading more rides so looking forward to meeting new people and try new trails!

Falkirk Funduro

Hi everyone! Just back from a super fun (and super cold) Saturday at the Muckmedden Falkirk Funduro. The race, as with all Muckmedden events, was very relaxed and a great opportunity to explore trails that I would not normally venture to.

Hanging out at the Kona stand it was great to chat to a lot of local kids that I used to coach, and see how they are developing and becoming confident as riders.

The race itself was much more physical that I was initially anticipating, with all stages being super flat, with small downhills and big climbs just as you were about to hit the wall. With stage one being the most pedally, I unfortunately hit my wall mid-stage 2 and, losing concentration, fell off at the bottom of a small descent with a climb ahead. Luckily a marshall came to the rescue to untangle me from tape and bike! Whilst adrenaline helped me to the end of the stage, pain soon set in.

My favourite stage of the day was 4, and even with another silly crash into a tree I still finished the stage with a smile! Whilst my overall result was not what I intended on, I was super pleased for Thomas who won the race and was fastest of the day!

The guys at Bespoke have done a great job building the trails - I am looking forward to returning for a XC ride.

Unfortunately that's all the Muckmedden events finished for 2015, but looking forward to their 2016 event!

Eco Socks

Winter is on its way this weekend! Perfect timing to try out some cool new socks. Thanks to Greenrig Cycles for sorting me out!

The socks are from eco brand Teko and come in a variety of cool colours.

Hopefully get the chance to try them out this weekend at the Falkirk Funduro! Hoping the weather is not too cold!

Night ride ready I ventured out to try some new trails at Callendar Estate with Muckmedden. Except I forgot to charge my light!

However Greenrig Cycles - the on site bikes shop- saved the day, lending me some lights last minute!

Not only are they a great shop but they also have an awesome pump track out back! As it was dark I couldn't take any photos, but will hopefully have another opportunity to in the future!

The best thing about the shop? They're also a Kona Bikes dealer! So if you're in the area make sure you drop in to look at the new 2016 range!

Bright. Night. Light.

This week I was lucky to receive a new night riding light for the upcoming night rides I am leading as well as some night racing. Considering this light comes in sub £20 - this Nestling light sure does pack in a lot of value with 4000 lumens and a rear AAA battery powered light free in the box just in case you encounter some roads on the way home.

At the price, I was super pleased to get almost 2 hours of night riding out of a charge with battery to spare - and the green lights to the rear of the light are helpful to let you know when to start heading home.

The light has 4 settings - flashing plus 3 levels of brightness. On fireroad climbs I turned the lights down to the lowest constant beam which lit up the path adequately. I tried the medium setting on the descents, however I found it a little too dark, so I used the brightest setting for most (photo on medium setting set far ahead to show distance).

The light sits nicely on the bars- with the fixing supplied staying in position throughout but also easy to manoeuvre so the light is in the best position for the trail.

The battery pack is reasonably compact - and I think with some proper tape, the cable would run better along the frame. The pack itself was sat out the the right of the frame due to the space on the Kona Process frame (size Medium), however this didn't affect riding at all, and the pouch stopped any marks being made on the frame.

Further testing needed to see how it fairs in variable weather. More soon!

With Autumn bringing in the darker days I have been glad of these lights. Coming in around £30 a set these Infini Lava USB lights are great from the day to day commute to getting caught as it gets dark on the way back from a ride.

Both lights also come with a number of options for easily fixing the lights to the bike.

The front light has 4 settings, allowing 3 power / brightness settings and a flashing beam option. The front light also has a bar on top which changes colour as battery starts to deplete.

The rear light has 3 settings, a solid beam, and 2 different flashing beam patterns.

Now to see how they fare this winter!

Exciting news as I am collaborating with Kona UK over the next few months. It is great to collaborate with such a great brand. The Process is proving to be a great bike especially for coaching - it really is one of those bikes that is so versatile! The colours of the Kona 2016 bikes are pretty cool too!
